"One of the best decisions I’ve ever made is signing up for Michelle Bish’s book coaching. I look forward to every single one of our meetings. She is a gentle and wise force of nature and has kept the book-writing process filled with joy. When you have a big message of love to send out into the world, it helps to have a loving, competent team. Thanks Michelle for helping me launch my groundbreaking book, I AM Intuitive: A Guide for MultiDimensional Healing."

"This program and everything we've walked through with Michelle has been so incredibly valuable to us. We see the potholes we were putting bridges over that should have been filled. We've been able to step back and see where we really need to focus and spend our energy and that's a result of this program. A lot that's jumped out for us has been incredible for both our book and our business."

"Working with Michelle was a gamechanger for my writing journey. When I first met Michelle I felt completely overwhelmed by the thought of writing a book. From our very first session, it was clear that she was very knowledgeable about the publishing industry and the process of getting published. She gave invaluable insights into industry trends, more effective ways to tell my story, and practical strategies that I never would have even considered. Her calm and friendly nature helped simplify the process of book writing and also gave me clarity about how to approach my project.Michelle was extremely helpful in getting me to understand my readers. She showed me how to identify who they were and their pain points. She gave me useful advice to help me convey a message that would reach the right people and have impact. Most importantly, she was dedicated to doing this in a way that preserved my authentic voice. Michelle had a unique knack for understanding the essence of what I wanted to say and then fine tuning the message while ensuring that my personality still came through.I really appreciated how invested Michelle was in the success of my project and it was amazing to have her encouragement and constructive feedback. I would recommend Michelle to any author seeking to realize their dream of writing and publishing a book."Victor Chan, BSc., MBA, ND

About Michelle

With over twenty years of experience as a book publishing insider, I have the expertise and knowledge to help you navigate the complexities of the industry.

Hi, I’m Michelle Bish, CNP, a Book Coach and Holistic Nutritionist specializing in helping health and wellness experts get their books written and into the world. My joy is working with health and wellness professionals focusing on healing topics - physical, mental, and spiritual. I want wellness professionals to feel confident in their writing ability and to find their writing voice.I love working with authors from the very start of a project, when the book is a whisper of an idea and little or nothing has been written.I help my authors develop their book idea, map out their book, and integrate marketing from the start because many authors struggle with marketing and it should not be an afterthought.I help my traditional publishing path authors to write a book proposal and pitch it. I help my self- or hybrid-path authors to create a publishing plan and then write their manuscript.I am compelled to do this because the world needs more wellness.

  • Author Accelerator Certified Book Coach in Nonfiction and Memoir

  • Institute of Holistic Nutrition, Certified Nutritional Practitioner (CNP) aka Holistic Nutritionist

  • Publishing professional with more than 20 years’ experience in traditional publishing, including trade and professional publishing at Penguin Books, Addison-Wesely Longman, and Prentice Hall and higher education/ academic publishing at Pearson Education.

  • A life-long learner, I also hold a BA in Fine Art from the University of Waterloo, a Certificate in Publishing from Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University) and a Certificate in Marketing from the University of Toronto.

Work With Michelle

If you are struggling to start or write your wellness book,
working with me is the right decision.

Clarify Your Idea

You've got an idea or three bouncing around in your head or even partially written but are stuck and have questions.Which idea is best?
Does my idea hold together?
Is it commercially viable?
Will anyone read it?
We will work through a series of steps to make sure your idea is clear and solid.

Pitch Your Book

You've clarified your book idea and want to pursue the traditional publishing path.
How? By pitching your book.
Pitching happens in two phases. Phase 1 is crafting a book proposal, a complex sales and marketing document for your book. Phase 2 involves querying literary agents. Your proposal must be ready to submit when you start querying.

Write Your Book

You're signed with a publisher or have decided to self-publish your book. Hurray! Now you need to write your book! But you went to school to learn how to heal people, not to write a book and it feels daunting.I provide support to help you get the words out of your head and onto the page. This might involve finding your voice, book structure, flow, accountability, and cheerleading.

Not sure what you need? Book a call and we'll figure it out together.

Super Helpful Books for Nonfiction Authors

Here are books I recommend to my authors. I've read all of these so you don't have to!

AJ Harper: Write a Must-Read: Craft a Book That Changes Lives - Including Your Own

Jennie Nash: Blueprint for a Nonfiction Book: Plan and Pitch Your Big Idea

Jody Rein with Michael Larson: How to Write a Book Proposal: The Insider's Step-by-Step Guide to Proposals that Get You Published

Kobi Yamada: What Do You Do with an Idea?

Jon Stone: The Monster at the End of This Book (Sesame Street)

Elizabeth Gilbert: Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear

William Strunk, E. White: The Elements of Style
A classic style manual. This timeless little book has a special place in my heart because I was the marketing manager for this book for several years.

Book Publishing Related Movies

Turn Every Page: The Adventures of Robert Caro and Robert Gottlieb (2022) - A documentary about the decades long relationship between an author and editor.

American Fiction (2023) - Excellent movie and yes, publishing really can be this ridiculous.

The Proposal (2009) - A romantic comedy whose main characters work for a book publisher but they are only in the office for about 10 minutes and that's all the publishing we get, LOL.

Helpful Technology For Authors

Here are some online platforms I recommend to my authors. The free plans are all you need. I use these myself.

Trello - One of my authors used Trello to organize her table of contents. Blurt out all your ideas on separate cards and organize them by dragging and dropping.

Canva - Mock up a book cover with your working title, print it out and wrap it around a book for inspiration. Create marketing items, QR codes, and more.

Clockify - Easy tracking for all your time. Research time, writing time, and time spent on other book-related tasks.

Pinterest - Start a board of your comp covers and covers that you like to help inform a creative brief for your own book cover.

Audio Capture with Transcripts - Since we talk faster than we type, capturing yourself talking and getting a transcript can help in the writing process. There are many ways to do this. Otter allows 300 minutes a month free. The iPhone Notes app records audio and transcribes as does the iPhone VoiceMemos app.
